ABOUT US

Team 8085, MOJO, is a FIRST Robotics Competition team from Milford, CT operating under the Milford Robotics program of the Milford Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. MOJO was founded in 2020 to address the lack of a high school robotics program within Milford, CT and to continue foster student enthusiasm for science and engineering Since then, Team 8085 has grown from just 3 mentors and 10 students, to 11 mentors and 30 students.

Our Mission

By building on the currently available academic opportunities at Milford Public Schools, we provide a way for students graduating from middle school and FLL programs, to continue their pursuit of STEM. Students gain a variety of technical, non-technical, and soft skills. And most importantly, through a team environment students learn how to collaborate, manage projects, and ultimately become more confident in themselves. It is our mission to help students develop the skills and attributes necessary for success in college and their professional careers.

A Community Team

Team 8085 is proud to be a community team, accepting students from not just Milford, but from surrounding areas as well regardless of skill level, background, or financial need. Students and alumni of MOJO hail from a number of different towns, including Milford, West Haven, New Haven, Stamford, Westport, and Trumbull – and multiple high schools – including Joseph A. Foran HS, Jonathan Law HS, West Haven HS, Career HS, and Hopkins School. We are proud of our growing roster of students and the cross-school community that we’ve created.

Completely Fee-Free

Our team is proud to be a fee-free program. All expenses regarding transportation, lodging, membership, and meals during meetings are paid for by the team through a robust and comprehensive fundraising program. To join Team 8085, students simply have to show up to any of the team meetings. There are no applications, limits, or minimum expectations to participate. While many organizations charge student dues or membership fees, our team understands that charging fees to participate in our program would be a costly barrier to entry.
